Big Brother 25: Matt Klotz's Covered Tattoo Explained

On Big Brother 25, houseguest Matt Klotz's tattoo was concealed by a large bandage. What is the tattoo and why was it covered up on the show?

Big Brother 25 houseguest Matt Klotz's upper-back tattoo was covered up with a large bandage on the show, and questions remain about what the tattoo is and why it was concealed. Matt is a 27-year-old Deaflympics gold medalist originally from Cameron Park, CA, who currently lives in Baton Rouge, LA. He is breaking new ground on Big Brother as the first deaf houseguest ever to play the game.

Big Brother 25 contestant Matt is a professional swimmer, training for the 2024 Olympics. He is a ten-time Deaflympic gold medalist, and a five-time deaf world record holder. It took him 14 years of speech therapy to learn how to talk. Matt wants to be a role model for the deaf community. So far, he has proven himself to be an awesome competitor with a strong social game. As Matt has been featured in episodes, his tattoo has been covered.

Matt's tattoo combines the logo for the Deaflympics with the Olympic rings. The Deaflympics logo is added to the center ring. In 2015, Matt shared a post about having his tattoo retouched, in which there is a close-up photograph of the body art. At the time, Matt wrote, "having the retouch was almost like starting over again for me... So many things I cannot even explain has happened to me these past few months of struggling with (PCS) Post Concussion Syndrome." Matt's tattoo obviously means a lot to him. Although it's covered up on the show, he knows it's there and what it represents to him.

Big Brother didn't offer an explanation for why Matt's tattoo was concealed by a bandage, but there are some possible reasons. Because the tattoo isn't offensive, it would seem that it shouldn't be an issue. However, the Olympics air on NBC, and CBS, which airs Big Brother, might not have wanted to show the Olympic rings on their network. Another possibility is that the tattoo is subject to copyright laws that would require CBS to get permission from the tattoo artist in order to air it on television. Rather than deal with either of these possible issues, CBS opted to simply cover up Matt's tattoo.

Matt's tattoo is a beautiful work of art that is obviously very special to him. As a Deaflympics athlete, his tattoo is a reminder of his achievements and goals. Matt is bringing awareness to the deaf community as Big Brother viewers watch him compete on the show. His tattoo might be concealed, but it is surely a good luck charm to him that inspires him to reach for the stars. With his competition skills and fantastic social game, Matt has a great chance of winning Big Brother 25.

Big Brother airs Sundays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT and Thursdays at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
